Cricket is summer for me too. Long sunny days watching my dad and brothers play, then as my dad got older he moved to being an umpire. We go and watch the local team now and take a picnic. Love that they raised so much money in his memory. He was obviously very loved ❤️🩹
Ahh yes cricket! I played in the garden with my brothers and dad, learnt to field a real ball and throw it accurately.
I changed primary school aged nine was petrified every playtime so would stand limply next to the building and watch everyone
One day the boys were playing cricket a ball came my way I caught it and fielded it back. Result… I was gently invited to join in the game which I did that playtime and every other one for the summer term. However what I did not expect was the reaction of the girls who were all gobsmacked that I seemed to have a whole team of “boyfriends” who invited me down to the swimming pool in the town as well.
The girls then lobbied the teacher to let boys and girls play cricket and the following year we had a very cool motorbike riding class teacher who reasonably let everyone into the game.
So sad to read this. I hope as each cricket season comes and goes the happiness of those memories eclipses the loss you feel today ❤️

Oh memories can be so tough. Sending sunshine your way from the States and hoping the memories bring you more joy and peace than sadness.
